Mike Wins 2000 National Retriever Championship
with FC Maxx's Surprise

Prize delivered Mike his sixth national championship, a record setting victory, by winning the 2000 National Retriever Championship on Saturday, November 18th in Ardmore, Oklahoma.  Prize is the son of 2xNAFC-FC 2xCNAFC Ebonstar Lean Mac and FC-AFC-CNFC-CNAFC Chena River No Surprise.

Mike had held the previous record of five national wins, including:

  • Candlewoods Tanks a Lot (Lottie) in 1990, 1991, and 1993

  • Candlewoods Super Tanker (Tank) in 1992, and

  • Storm's Riptide Star (Rascal) in 1996.

Three other finalists were trained and handled by Mike: FC-AFC Coldwater Cork, FC-AFC Candlewoods Ramblin Man, and FC-AFC Redline Wilderness Hannah to Go.  Mike also trained finalist FC-AFC Chickamauga Choo Choo, owned by Lynne and Mac DuBose, and handled by Lynne.  These five dogs accounted for one-third of the finalists from a field of 87 starters.

Daily coverage of the event can be found at Working Retriever Central (WRC).
