After the dog has completed the swim-by procedure, we can start our cheating singles. It is easier if the dog has had some handling work on the land first. Remember to give your dog plenty of fun, non-cheating marks in the water throughout this training. The first cheaters are simply entry marks. We want the lesson to concentrate on the entry, not on the swim or the exit. Make the bumper easy to find. Teach at first, use correction once the dog knows what is going on. Move
up to simplify, move back to challenge. Repeat for success.
A pothole or simple channel is ideal for a basic cheating single. |
