Retriever training is at first an endeavor to possess a more effective and efficient hunting companion. But that certainly can't explain what attracts so many of us to training retrievers for hunting and competition. Mike believes the passion for retriever training stems primarily from the relationship that can develop between man and retriever, although certainly there is the simple appeal of being outdoors and enjoying the companionship of like-minded training partners. It is difficult to describe the sense of accomplishment, teamwork, and awe that you can feel when your retriever performs remarkable feats while hunting or in competition. While your retriever's courage and desire may no doubt amaze you at times, the most rewarding moments occur when your dog's intelligence and training come together to show a profound awareness that you might not have thought possible in human/animal interactions.
